Electromagnetic interference or EMI (also called radio-frequency interference or RFI) is a growing concern in the world of electronics.  The more electronics we have, the more ‘noise’ we create.  This ‘noise’ or disturbance can degrade the performance of a circuit or even stop it from functioning.

Protecting systems against intentional and unintentional EMI/RFI is now a very high concern. This is generally achieved by insulating the components with materials that block the fields.  For example, braided sleeving over a cable can act as shielding.
